You Should Play Heavy Bullets

Lately I’ve been enjoying a little indie game (indie games are games made by a small team) called Heavy Bullets. It’s a roguelike game, meaning that when you die, you have to start the whole game over, and the levels are randomly generated. The concept of Heavy Bullets is that it is a shooter game, but your bullets are really heavy, and when you shoot them, you are able to pick them up again. You use a revolver (6 bullets) and explore ruins. The art style is very psychedelic instead of realistic, with lots of bright colors.

The gameplay is fun, and each run is different. You will find a variety of different enemies. Imps are the easiest to beat; they run towards you on eye contact. Worms are sneaky; they will blend in with purple plants and attack you on contact. There have been many times that I haven’t been careful and been poisoned by worms. There are many items you can collect throughout your adventure, each with different effects. You will find shops with random items scattered throughout the ruins. You collect money by killing enemies, and you lose it when you die. However, you will sometimes come across banks where you can deposit some of your money, and you can buy life insurance, which will automatically deposit a percentage of your money when you die. I always find that the best strategy is that when you are about to die, you should deposit all of your money into the bank, and then try and continue on.

The most difficult enemy so far for me to defeat are turrets. They will keep shooting at you doing lots of damage, and the only way that I think I can take them out with your gun is shooting them before they start up. This is where bombs and rockets can be very useful. If you have a rocket, I strongly recommend saving it for taking down a turret, as this is highly effective. I have actually only made it to the second level a couple of times, and in this level I have encountered new and unfamiliar enemies, and prettier environments, such as a rainforest-like area. If you like shooter games or roguelike games and want to try something different, give Heavy Bullets a shot. It’s available on Steam, and you don’t need a good computer to run it.
